PROFICIENCY

2023/2024 SKILLS MAINTENANCE (PROFICIENCY)

 

Kurrawa has set the following dates for our Skills Maintenance: 

Proficiency # 1: Sunday 10th September

Proficiency # 2: Saturday 7th October

Proficiency # 4: Sunday 10th December 

You must enrol for your chosen date via the SLS Members Portal E-Learning Platform.

Each year members that wish to patrol or compete must undertake a proficiency test to be deemed competent in the awards they hold.

 

All members that were proficient in the 2022/2023 season must attend a skills maintenance check unless you have gained the award after 1 July 2023. Members that were not proficient in 2022/2023 will need to complete a 400mtr pool swim in 9 minutes or less and 200mtr in 5 minutes or less for SRC prior to attending a Skills Maintenance test. Members that have not been proficient for a period of 3 years or more need to contact lifesaving@kurrawasurf.com.au 

 

Skills Maintenance Checks (proficiency) will include but not limited to:

 

  • Completing the online theory (instructions located below)

  • Participating in a Run, Swim, Run

  • Demonstrating CPR skills

  • Demonstrating competency in Board and Tube rescues

  • Spinal care (water and walk up)

  • Signals

  • Radio

  • Bleeding, anaphylaxis, asthma

  • Power craft awards (IRB Driver & Crew) 

 

The theory components must all be completed online via the  E-Learning Training Library within the SLS Members Portal. 

COMPLETE ONLINE SKILLS MAINTENANCE THEORY MODULES

  1. Log into Members Portal https://members.sls.com.au/

  2. Click eLearning

  3. Log into eLearning Hub

  4. Click on the Skills Maintenance icon

  5. Log in with your SLS portal details

  6. Click Training Library

  7. Click view course 2023 Skills Maintenance (top left-hand corner)

  8. Choose Bronze Medallion or Surf Rescue Certificate (dependent on the current award you hold)

  9. Enrol

  10. Complete ALL modules in order
    Bronze Theory Modules > Video>Rescue Scenarios > First Aid Scenarios > Assessment Module
    SRC Theory Modules > Video > Rescue Scenarios

ENROL IN A SKILLS MAINTENANCE SESSION AT KURRAWA

  1. Log into Members Portal https://members.sls.com.au/

  2. Click eLearning

  3. Log into eLearning Hub

  4. Click on the Skills Maintenance icon

  5. Log in with your SLS portal details

  6. Click Training Event

  7. Find Proficiency date you want to attend using the Calendar

  8. Enrol in the Proficiency date (bottom right-hand corner)

    1. DO NOT CHANGE THE TICKED BOXES

  9. Enrol (bottom right)

Members that only hold the Emergency Care awards (First Aid or ART) MUST attend a skills maintenance check to maintain proficiency in their Resuscitation award.

Members are not permitted to participate in Skills Maintenance at other clubs unless pre-arranged through Kurrawa.
